 THE WRITER — AUTHOR TERMS OF USE

  1. INTRODUCTION

  These Author Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your participation as an author

  on The Writer platform ("Service") operated by 221B Studio ("we", "us").

  By submitting an author application, you agree to these Terms.

  2. ELIGIBILITY

  You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your country)

  and have the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements. You are

  responsible for complying with all laws applicable to your country of

  residence and, where applicable, to the markets where your works are

  distributed.

  3. AUTHOR APPLICATION

  You apply by submitting your pen name, country of residence, and a short

  bio through the app. Our team reviews each application and may request

  additional tax, identity, and payout documents by email before approval.

  We may approve or decline applications at our sole discretion.

  4. GRANT OF RIGHTS

  For each work ("Book") you publish through the Service, you grant 221B

  Studio a non-exclusive, worldwide, sublicensable license to reproduce,

  distribute, display, transmit, and sell the Book through the Service and

  partner storefronts (including The Reader app and, where applicable,

  Google Play and Apple App Store) for the duration you keep the Book

  available.

  You retain all copyright in your Books. This license terminates when you

  remove a Book from the Service, subject to Section 9 (Wind-down).

  5. AUTHOR WARRANTIES

  You warrant that:

    (a) you are the sole owner of, or have the necessary rights to, each

        Book you upload, including all text, images, covers, and music;

    (b) your Books do not infringe any third party's copyright, trademark,

        privacy, or publicity rights;

    (c) your Books do not contain illegal content, sexually explicit

        material involving minors, incitement to violence, or content

        prohibited by Google Play or Apple App Store policies;

    (d) all information you provide (including identity and payout

        information) is accurate and current.

  You agree to indemnify 221B Studio against any claim arising from a breach

  of these warranties.

  6. CONTENT REVIEW

  We review each Book before publication. We may request edits, decline

  publication, or remove a Book at any time if it violates these Terms,

  applicable law, or store policies. We will provide a reason by email.

  7. PRICING AND REVENUE

  You set the rental and ownership prices of your Books in USD, subject to

  minimum and maximum ranges set by the Service. Prices in other currencies

  are determined by store-level conversion.

  Net revenue from each sale is calculated as:

      Net Revenue = Gross Sale Price

                    – Store fees (Google Play / Apple / web processor)

                    – Applicable taxes collected by the store

                    – Payment processing and remittance costs

  Of this Net Revenue, the author receives seventy percent (70%) and 221B

  Studio retains thirty percent (30%), unless a different split is agreed

  to in writing.

  8. PAYOUT

  Payouts are made monthly, on or before the last business day of the

  following month, provided your accumulated balance exceeds USD 50. Payout

  currency and method depend on your country of residence and are arranged

  by email.

  You are responsible for all taxes on your author income. For authors

  subject to Korean tax law, 221B Studio will withhold 3.3% business income

  tax at source. For authors outside Korea, payments may be subject to

  withholding based on your country's tax treaty with Korea. You agree to

  provide a W-8BEN, W-9, or equivalent certificate of tax residence upon

  request.

  9. TERMINATION AND WIND-DOWN

  Either party may terminate this agreement at any time with written notice.

  Upon termination:

    (a) new sales of your Books stop immediately;

    (b) readers who already purchased or rented your Books retain access for

        the term of their purchase;

    (c) we continue to pay you any amounts accrued before termination on

        the next regular payout cycle.

  We may also suspend or terminate your account immediately if you breach

  these Terms, if law enforcement requires it, or if we are required to

  comply with store policies.

  10. PRIVACY

  We collect and process the personal information you submit in accordance

  with our Privacy Policy. Sensitive documents (identity, bank, tax) are

  handled by email only and are not stored in the app or its databases.

  11. CHANGES

  We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be

  notified by email at least 14 days in advance. Your continued use of the

  Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

  12. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTES

  These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any

  dispute that cannot be resolved through good-faith discussion shall be

  submitted to the Seoul Central District Court as the court of first

  instance.
